Serendipity is back!

Do the students in your library love to read the Serendipity Books by Stephen Cosgrove?  Mine do. I can't keep them on the shelf. However, they are hard to replace because they have been out of print.
But now, according to Publisher's Weekly, they are now available. I will certainly have to check this out.

"Animals real, mythical, and imaginary headline Stephen Cosgrove’s Serendipity series of picture books, which is currently being reissued by Clovis, Calif.-based Heritage Builders Publishing. The 72-book series, originally launched in 1974 by Serendipity Press and out of print for a number of years, has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide. Illustrated by Robin James, these paperbacks offer stories addressing common childhood experiences and issues, including friendship, disabilities, fears, prejudice, and the environment.

Heritage Builders, whose books are distributed by PGW, released the inaugural eight Serendipity titles last January, and four more books followed in August. Four additional reissues – Kartusch, Squeakers, Trafalgar True, andZippity Zoom – are due in October, and three installments are scheduled for spring 2015." (PW, Sept. 9, 2014)

Charlie and the Chocolate tuns 50!

One of  my favourite books growing up, but until reading this article, I never really thought to think about the author and how the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, came to be. Ronald Dahl's life, though tragic at times, reads like a story itself.

Read the article from "The Guardian" to see if you agree with me.  I'm glad he persevered, and celebrate Charlie's 50 years in print.  Don't forget to check out the other book about Charlie - Charlie and the Glass Elevator. Then introduce a whole new group of readers to the world of Charlie and to Roald Dahl.
